Home, Sweet Home…
This June will be four years in our SouthPark house which seems so crazy! I have to admit that this house is my absolute favorite that we have owned. The way the home was built and designed was the perfect match for our taste, and the fact that it was move-in ready was a bonus. After completing a few minor renovations and upgrades to suit our needs, I now feel like our home is complete! I decided why not have some professional photos taken and share what we truly love most.
Decorating has always been something that I genuinely enjoy. Growing up, I watched my mom and Grandma effortlessly decorates their homes, and my Grandmother created, built, and decorated hundreds of beautiful dollhouses. She was a true artist! Sadly, the art gene did not pass on to me, but I love decorating.
If you know me, I typically have a project going, whether it's updating, painting, renovating, redecorating…basically changing anything and everything numerous times throughout the year. That being said, I'm fully aware that I mentioned earlier how my house "feels complete," but more changes likely are to come, especially after watching a new season of Dream Home Makeover. 😉 As my husband would say, it's like a disease, and there is no cure in sight.
Even if decorating isn't your thing, I think living through a pandemic turned everyone into their version of Chip and Joanna. Let's face it, being confined to your home for that amount of time will have you believing that your home\condo\apartment needs a change or at least a fresh coat of paint.
Throughout our home, we have lots of locally sourced pieces; surprised? I didn't think so! That's why I wanted to share this blog, to introduce more exceptionally talented artisans and interior shops that I use regularly and that are right here in the QC!
You had me at "open floor plan."
An open floor plan is the way to my heart! Who needs all those walls anyway? Stepping foot into a home and seeing multiple spaces at once is so appealing. The openness of our home is very accommodating and works well for our family. When it came time to decorate, I tried to step outside the box and not stick to what I typically do, using all neutrals. We went with a mix-some traditional, a touch of rustic and a smidge of modern. Since there isn't just one specific style, it creates a diverse array of fun elements throughout.
I'm a huge fan of natural light. The more, the better, and this house is in no way lacking. Initially, we had dark hardwood floors, which seemed a bit dated and dreary. Although we loved the natural rustic wood, we decided they needed a change. We chose a different stain to brighten everything up. Wow, was that a job! But worth it and gave the house a completely different feel. I also used to be hesitant about mixing and matching prints, but after some convincing and realizing not everything has to fit perfectly, I'm hooked! Since we have a combination of light wood tones throughout, I decided to add in accents of black, which is not a color I would typically think could be very inviting but the contrast it gives with all the lighter tones blends perfectly! The stone chimneys are a central focal point in the living room and den, so recently, we decided to have them whitewashed, and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out!

Abstract Addiction
Let’s not forget the good stuff… the art! Art wasn’t particularly something that was on my radar, that is, until recently, being introduced to SO many highly talented artists in Charlotte. Now I don’t have enough walls for all that I want! My go-to is abstract. I’m an abstract addict. I can’t get enough. As much as I try to find other styles to mix in, I always end up with more abstract. Art that has no definite shape or being just catches my eye. The idea of lines and shapes having no beginning or end is intriguing.
